Virtual Seniors Group

EDUCATE, ENABLE, PROMOTE AND RELAY HEALTH WELLNESS AND GOOD LIVING

The main goal of the Seniors program is to offer knowledge and opportunities to increase their well-being and socialization skills amongst them, to be able to develop the abilities of assertive communication, promote integration and social inclusion generating the abilities to face discrimination towards seniors.

For 10 years this project has received funding from the Canadian government through the New Horizons for Seniors Program and is successfully developed through weekly face to face meetings with workshops, guest speakers, panels and forums. Since the pandemic the program has been carried out using virtual technology with full participation and causing a leap to virtual technology for the elderly.

This program intends to study social isolation and loneliness and to create awareness of the importance of these risks for mental health, which affects a large part of the world’s population.

In addition, the program is designed to educate on the fundamentals of healthy aging, to allow a person to maintain a place of harmony, positive attitude and emotional well-being in their social and family environment. Also, this educational process provides the knowledge of aging as a physiological process that must be regarded as normal. This acceptance is vital to develop an attitude of resilience without affecting the quality of life.
